Illinois Governor Writes President About Border Crisis

He calls federal government efforts “uncoordinated.”

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker wrote to President Joe Biden this week to express concerns about the impact of the influx of South American migrants in America.

“Governors and mayors from border states have shipped people to our state like cargo in a dehumanizing attempt to score political points,” Governor Pritzker wrote, referring to governors of border states sending migrants to so-called sanctuary cities.

The Illinois governor said the people of Illinois would help the asylum seekers sent to their state, calling Illinois residents “kind and generous.” However, he stated that the failures that led to this situation came not from the actions of his gubernatorial peers, but from the “uncoordinated” efforts of the federal government.

“Most critically, the federal government’s lack of intervention and coordination [on] the border has created an untenable situation for Illinois,” he said. He called on President Biden’s administration to provide the aid necessary to help states manage the thousands of asylum seekers arriving on their doorsteps.

A White House spokesperson said that President Biden has “repeatedly called on Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform.“ The spokesperson said, “Without the help of Congress, the administration has been taking action: since May 12, we have removed or returned over a quarter million individuals.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the state governors who are experiencing the massive influx of migrants.
  • For U.S. national security and border officials as foreign nationals continue to seek asylum.
  • For the president and his immigration advisors as they consider options to control the border chaos.
